Only in Alaska

I never realized that living in Alaska there is only certain things you can find here that you couldn't find or get in the lower 48. For one thing there's food here that isn't normally serve in the lower 48 and that is reindeer sausage, caribou, and moose. I've tried all 3 and its not that bad. Another one is TV I hate they they can still advertise restaurants and stores that we don't have here. For instance I hate seeing the Olive Garden commercials cause they will never have one in Alaska. Oh yeah and you know how all fast food places advertise the dollar menu, well since everything here is a little more expensive there is no such thing as the dollar menu, it's the 1.50 menu.
This first picture is a shot of the race know as Running of the Reindeer, and yup it's just like running with the bulls in Spain but with reindeer in Alaska. They started the event I believe in 08 and it's been a hit every since. The reindeer are not as wild as the bulls are but I would still be sacred as hell to get pinned with one of those antlers.

So we have the highest gas prices in the nation, which is funny since we have a gas pipe line on the north slope. So why is it we have to pay more than everyone else, and I'm not talking about a few cents difference. I'm talking like almost a 50 cent difference it's nuts!
Usually people or debris in the road are cause of traffic jams. Here moose are the cause of alot of traffic build up/ accidents in the summer and winter time. They are everywhere in the summer time, downtown on the highways, side streets, bike trails, and eating leaves off your trees in your yard. We even have a big population of moose on base. We can't even use salt on the roads in the winter time because moose will come out of the woods and start licking the salt.

  1. Lol, wow it sounds like moose control a lot of your life up there. My friend was in Alaska once and got chased by a moose. They seem dangerous! The reindeer run sounds pretty awesome though, I'd love to see that!
